Home > Kalahari Plains Camp
Region:
Central Kalahari
Lodge name:
Kalahari Plains
General Description:
Kalahari Plains is situated in a remote part of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) and offers its guests some of the best wildlife viewing in the area, with rare sightings of the legendary black-maned lion and cheetah. During the rainy season (November – April) the desert turns into a wonderland of colour and life as new grass begins to sprout. This attracts game, such as the springbok and gemsbok which arrive in the hundreds and thousands, and who in turn are followed by an abundance of predators. Kalahari Plains offers its guests a unique and diverse experience.
Facilities:
The main area consists of a lounge and dining area with a swimming pool and deck. The whole camp is raised to ensure a full view of the immense surrounding pan. Hot water and electricity are provided by 100% solar power. Insulated canvas walls and roofs ensure the temperature inside the units remains comfortable for the guests.
Accommodation:
Kalahari Plains has 10 en-suite canvas units with a sleep-out above each where guests can enjoy a starry night or a solitary sleep-out. The camp’s raised location allows guests to enjoy a cool breeze while they view the vast panoramic plains of the Kalahari. The Kalahari has the highest concentration of cheetah in Southern Africa, and a myriad of small predators including the cape fox, honey badger, blacked-backed jackal, meerkat and many different mongoose species.
Game Viewing and activities:
Kalahari Plains offers guided game drives to the different areas of the Central Kalahari – such as Deception Valley – to enable guests to view wildlife as they move through the different areas of the park. Guests are also given the opportunity to interact and learn a new culture from the local bushman on ‘bushman walks’.
Child Policy
Children over the age of six years are welcome at Kalahari Plains
Why we like it:
The tented rooms offer a unique sleep-out for the guests to enjoy a starry night. The cultural experience with the local ‘bushman walks’ is superb, and the area has one of the highest concentration of cheetah in Southern Africa.
