If you choose to drive, you can drive to within 20 km of Nguma Island Lodge on good tar roads (280 km from Maun). 4×4 vehicles can get to the lodge directly, however 2 wheel drive vehicles will need to leave their vehicle locked up in a secure parking space in the village of Etsa, due to the road conditions too the lodge being too heavy for their 2 wheel drive vehicles. The distance from Etsa to the lodge is approximately 20km. The lodge will then collect you and transfer you to the lodge. This needs to be pre-arranged.

Game Viewing & Activities:

Activities included at Nguma Lodge are mokoro excursions, sundowner cruises and island walks. The main activity however is fishing . Best bream fishing is during the winter months, from April through to about August. Tiger Fish can be caught year round, but the best period is definitely during the catfish (barbel) run that happens each year between September and November. Though strong and stubborn fighters, catfish are not highly prized by anglers. But at this time of year the very visible catfish runs are followed by schools of voracious tigerfish, which snap up whatever escapes the cats. Lures, spinners, flies, strip fillets – whatever one throws at such times is instantly accepted by these supreme, razor-toothed predators.
